Nahiku Tropicals: A Horticultural Heirloom

Nahiku Tropicals

Steve Wilson's horticulturist roots reach way back and far away. His great, great grandfather, a Fruiter in Wales, owned several glass greenhouses which still stand today. After migrating from England, his great grandfather settled in San Antonio, Texas. Working as the city landscaper in the 1800's, he landscaped the historical Alamo Plaza. Steve's father and auntie started Webwood Flowers in Houston in 1948. After college and design school, Steve proudly took over the family biz in 1986. Today, Webwood Flowers is Houston's premier florist.

So how did this fourth generation Texan come to trade his work boots for work thongs? Steve's first journey to Maui was in 1985. As Maui lassoed the sun, Maui lassoed Steve's heart and he vowed he would return. For the next twenty years, Steve and his wife Pati made their annual trek to the Valley Isle, but short visits were just never enough. To fill this void, they purchased this 2-acre flower farm in 2004. Steve and Pati have been growing Nahiku Tropicals ever since.

Located on the lower slopes of the Hanawi Rainforest Preserve, 852-feet above sea level, Nahiku Tropical's marriage of elevation and location create an atmosphere perfect for tropical flower production.

A floral design company, by appointment, Nahiku Tropicals has the capabilities to create and implement cutting-edge design for Maui destination weddings. A service-oriented company, Nahiku Tropicals can also assist Hawaii's trade show and association meeting planners with their specialized decor, floral and gift needs given Steve's thirty-plus year history in the trade show and convention event business.

Located between the Hana Highway 26 and 27 mile-markers, Nahiku Tropicals offers flower farm tours. Visitors can stroll among manicured gardens, get a close-up look at the many exotic flowers like the Blue Ice Calatheas, neon yellow Shogun heliconias, old-growth Koa trees and Hawaiian Ohia-Lehua trees, and sit next to the fresh-water stream flowing through the property and breathe in the fragrantly sweet, cool air.

Carrying on the family tradition, Steve now has his greenhouses. No need for glass in this climate however; the exotic bromeliads, orchids and anthuriums that fill his open-air greenhouses dance, bloom and thrive in Maui's balmy breezes.

Order a gift box full of the Nahiku Tropical's gorgeous tropical flowers or contact Steve for your destination wedding or convention services needs. This certified nursery will ship anywhere in the mainland.
