FARM TOURS

Tropical varieties

As seductive as the sunset, the bold colors, soft hues, exotic shapes and distinctive beauty, Maui's flowers capture imaginations and stir passionate memories of paradise.

From the southern slope of Haleakala where the woodsy-essence of lavender and protea catch the air thermals and perfume the air, to the eastern slope jungles with humid air layered in the scents of fresh rain and gingers, Maui is one brilliant bouquet. Visiting a Maui flower farm or sending a gift box of Maui's flowers to your friends, family, or self is a fresh way to bring paradise home.

King Protea

Maui's Flower growers are an eclectic bunch. Transplanting roots, some have come to Maui to heal, some to make a major life-change, but all have had an epiphany to become a ground-digging, sickle-towing flower farmer in the middle of the Pacific. Few have experience. Exchanging high-heals for work-boots, manicured nails for dirt-crusted fingers, the rat race for the jungle, all are determined to live off the land and share Maui's bounty with the world.

Visiting a flower farm gives visitors clamoring for new activities a taste of a real farming experience--Maui-style. These tours are concentrated in the jungle pockets of East Maui and on the wide-open slopes of Upcountry. Tour hosts offer a plate of Hawaiian hospitality from which you'll taste fresh picked fruits and nuts, home-grown lunches, jaw-dropping views and the sweet smell of flowers as fuel for our spirits. All are served with a side of happiness.

Pink Gingers

Maui's flower farmers offer "touch and feel" tours. You'll be able to touch a feathery-fringed, furry protea, squeeze a jelly–filled tropical Costus, inhale the fragrance of delicate orchids, or crush tiny lavender flowers to release their calming aroma.

From enjoying lavender scones and hot tea at Alii Kula Lavender Farm, to picking hanging Lychee fruit as you saunter through Hana Maui Botanical Gardens, to picking bright stalks of Heliconias or Sexy Pinks at Nahiku Farms, or to absorbing expert orchid growing advice from the owners of Fragrant Orchids of Maui and Hana Tropicals, these tours are once in a lifetime opportunities for visitors to meet locals and see how their flowers grow.

Visiting a local flower farm gives visitors a chance to get off the beaten-path and walk through flower stem tunnels and under flower canopies. They give Maui's farmers a chance to showcase their flowers and to help diversify their farming operations.

Supporting our island flower farmers not only helps to support Maui's Agricultural Industry, visiting local flower farms and sharing gifts of Maui grown flowers offer a brief repose from life's stress and helps to reawaken your appreciation of nature's fragile beauty and the spirit of aloha.
